Burgberg Castle

The rule Burgberg , based on the castle in Burgberg , today a district of Giengen an der Brenz in the Heidenheim district ( Baden-Württemberg ), was first mentioned in 1209. Around 1270 half of the rule came from the Knights of Berg to the Counts of Helfenstein . They exchanged their feudal rights in 1328 with the House of Oettingen . The other half of the rule was Allod of the Lords of Böbingen, who received the Oettinger half as a fief in 1339. After various changes of ownership, the Oettingen family united the entire rule from 1728 onwards.

As part of the mediatization in 1806, the Burgberg rule came under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Bavaria . In 1810 the area fell to the Kingdom of Württemberg in accordance with the border treaty between Bavaria and Württemberg .
