history

Burgberg is a former castle of the lower nobility family of the Knights von Berg, which was first mentioned in a document in 1425 as Burgbergk . The knight dynasty was in the service of the Margraves of Burgau and at times the Counts of Helfenstein . Around 1630 the facility was badly devastated. In 1664 the new owner, Count Joachim Gottfried von Grafeneckref, had the castle rebuilt before it passed to the princes of Oettingen-Wallerstein in 1728 . Baron Edmund von Linden bought it in 1838 and had it rebuilt and expanded.

Maria von Linden , the first woman to receive the title of professor, was born at Burgberg Castle on July 18, 1869 . Countess Maria von Linden, Edmund von Linden's granddaughter, was forced to sell the estate including the castle to relatives in 1936 due to high legal costs and severance payments.

The Badmann family has been the owner since 1963.

The castle consists of two four-storey buildings with a gable roof , each facing each other and separated by a narrow courtyard. In the castle are the remains of a castle , the former surrounding wall of which defines the outline of the complex as an irregular square.
