history

Since 1101 the high nobility, related to those of Metzingen, Sigmaringen-Spitzenberg, Gundelfingen and Albeck, has been named after the castle (also after Dapfen near Münsingen and Böbingen near Schwäbisch Gmünd). In the 14th century, lower nobility from Böbingen also sat on Michelstein. In 1346 the castle of Öttingen was assigned to the bishopric of Würzburg as a fief. At the end of the 14th century it came to Königsbronn.
