The moated castle Bergenweiler is a lost moated castle and a former castle in Bergenweiler , today a district of the community Sontheim an der Brenz in the district of Heidenheim in Baden-Württemberg .
history
In 1588 the castle was built by the Lords of Stain in place of an earlier moated castle mentioned in 1460 as an extensive Renaissance complex. In 1932 the castle - without the outbuildings of the Amtshaus and Jägerhaus, Erzmagazin and Zehntscheuer as well as the castle chapel with the furnishings from the time it was built - was destroyed by fire. In 1953 the last remains of the castle chapel were demolished.
