Burkheim Castle

The Lordship of Burkheim , based at Burkheim Castle in Burkheim am Kaiserstuhl , today a district of Vogtsburg in the Kaiserstuhl in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district ( Baden-Württemberg ), came to the Einsiedeln monastery in the 10th century .

In 1560 Lazarus von Schwendi received the pledge of the castle, town and rule of Burkheim with Oberrotweil , Oberbergen , Vogtsburg and Jechtingen . Burkheim Castle was built on the site of a ruined castle and was destroyed by French troops in 1673. The last imperial lord of Burkheim was Egid Joseph Karl von Fahnenberg .

As part of the mediatization in 1806, the rule of Burkheim came under the sovereignty of the Grand Duchy of Baden .
