Oberbergen is a district of Vogtsburg in the Kaiserstuhl in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district in Baden-Württemberg with around 1000 inhabitants. The village, which has belonged to the town of Vogtsburg since 1975, consists of two parts: Altvogtsburg, the namesake of the town of Vogtsburg with around 50 inhabitants, and the wine and holiday resort of Oberbergen.

Geographical location
The village is located in the middle of the Kaiserstuhl wine-growing region in the Upper Rhine Plain . The Kaiserstuhl is one to 557 m above sea level. NHN high low mountain range of volcanic origin. With a cultivated vineyard area of around 350 hectares, Oberbergen is one of the largest wine-growing areas in Baden-Württemberg, the town of Vogtsburg.

The vineyards of Oberbergen are covered with a layer of loess , which gives the soil fertility. The valley in which Oberbergen is located was formed as a result of fracture tectonic and volcanic events.

The Kiechlinsbergen district of Endingen is located north of Oberbergen . Adjacent to the east is Schelingen, to the west are Bischoffingen and Oberrotweil and to the south-west are Bickensohl, all districts of the town of Vogtsburg.
history
In Oberbergen there are finds from the Neolithic Age (approx. 5500-4950 BC). From around 800 BC There are indications of a settlement by the Celts , who were only expelled by the Alemanni around 200 AD . The first documentary mention comes from the year 972.
On January 1, 1973, Oberbergen was incorporated into the town of Oberrotweil, whose name was changed on April 15, 1977 to Vogtsburg in the Kaiserstuhl.
Viticulture
Oberbergen is particularly known for the wines of the local wine cooperative with 460 members and Fritz Keller as the owner of a winery and host of the Schwarzer Adler restaurant . The restaurant had a Michelin star from 1969 to 2019 . Of the wines from Oberbergen, the Müller-Thurgau and the gray Burgundy deserve special mention.
The main growing area for wines in Oberbergen is called the bass violin . The name Baßgeige is probably derived from the nature of the vineyards from the air like a big bass fiddle look.
