Mr. Fischler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hersch Fischler (* 1947 in Steyr , Austria) is a German sociologist and journalist from Düsseldorf.

Life

Fischler studied sociology, philosophy and economics and political science.

Fischler has worked as a freelance publicist and journalist since the 1980s. In 1997, his research on the SS Raubgold revealed documents about the involvement of German banks at the time. That probably led to the establishment of three historians' commissions that confirmed his research.

He also emerged as a co-author of two publications on the Reichstag fire and the history of the Bertelsmann group. His research on the history of the Bertelsmann group led u. a. also to a commission of historians. As a result, Bertelsmann had to correct its official company history regarding its role in the Third Reich .

In research on the Reichstag fire, he became known as a critic of the sole perpetrator thesis, which is essentially based on a series in the magazine Der Spiegel by Fritz Tobias (co-author Paul Schmidt-Carell) in 1959. He found documents in the house archive of the Institute for Contemporary History (IfZ) that demonstrated irregularities in Hans Mommsen's scientific confirmation of the Spiegel series . Mommsen's confirmation had led to the acceptance of the sole perpetrator thesis. As a result, the Institute for Contemporary History distanced itself from Hans Mommsen in 2001. In 2005 the IfZ published a contribution by Fischler, in which he set out details of the untenability of van der Lubbe's sole perpetrator and demonstrated documentation errors in Spiegel magazine .

resonance

Referring to Fischler , the NZZ caused a stir in 2000 with its criticism of the award of the Ludwig Börne Prize to the long-standing Spiegel publisher Rudolf Augstein , which it justified with the role of Augstein in the history-distorting description of the Reichstag fire by the Spiegel.
