Hersekoğlu Ahmed Pasha
Hersekoğlu Ahmed Pascha ( Bosnian / Croatian / Serbian Ahmed-paša Hercegović ; * around 1456 in Herceg Novi ; † July 1517 near Haleb , Syria ) was an Ottoman grand vizier , statesman and general.
Life
Ahmed Pasha, whose real Christian name was Stjepan, was the youngest son of Stjepan Vukčić Kosača . When Bosnia came under Ottoman rule, he was sent hostage to the court of Sultan Mehmed II , where he arrived between November 1473 and the summer of 1474. There he received training at the Enderun and converted to Islam. In 1481 Hersekoğlu became Beylerbey of Anatolia . From 1487 to 1488 he held the office of Kapudan Pasha in the Ottoman Navy . In 1488 he was captured by Mamluk , from which he returned unharmed. Ahmed Pasha held the office of Grand Vizier five times between 1497 and 1516. He was also from 1509 to 1510 Sandžak-beg of Gallipoli . Ahmed Pasha took part in the Ottomans' campaigns to Persia (1514) and Egypt . He left foundations in Constantinople .
Ahmed Pasha died of natural causes on his way back from Egypt to Anatolia. His grave is in a Türbe near the village of Hersek in Altınova , where he had previously donated a mosque. He was married to the daughter of Bayezid II .
