Hertha-Lore Borkhardt

Hertha-Lore Borkhardt (born September 16, 1939 in Saxony ) is a German microbiologist .

Live and act

Hertha-Lore Borkhardt was born in 1939. From 1945 to 1953 she attended the 32nd Middle School “Sieben Schwaben” and from 1953 to 1957 the Martin-Andersen-Nexö Gymnasium in Dresden . Here she graduated from high school in 1957 . She then studied medicine at the Medical Academy in Dresden , where she also received her doctorate . At the Institute for Medical Microbiology, she completed her advanced training as a specialist in medical microbiology. In 1978 Hertha-Lore Borkhardt received her habilitation in Dresden with a thesis on methodical and immunological aspects of the specific serodiagnosis of treponematoses in humans . Following the Harald Hudemann emeritus , she was appointed professor of medical microbiology and director of the institute of the same name at the Magdeburg Medical Academy . Borkhardt headed the institute until Wolfgang König was appointed as W3 professor at the newly founded Otto von Guericke University . Hertha-Lore Borkhardt continued to work at the institute until her retirement in 1999. She will turn 70 on September 16, 2009.

Her son Arndt Borkhardt (* 1963), director of the Clinic for Pediatric Hematology , Oncology and Clinical Immunology at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf since 2006 , studied at the Magdeburg Medical Academy from 1984 to 1990.
