Herthamoor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Herthamoor is located on the border between Berlin and Brandenburg in the Oberhavel district on the edge of Bergfelde .

The Herthamoor belongs to the West Barnim landscape protection area and is subject to the Brandenburg forest moor protection program .

description

The 9,000 to 11,000 year old moor and its surroundings are of great scenic and ecological importance.

The natural area that begins to the west of the Bergfeld settlement edge, to which the Herthamoor also belongs, represents an essential part of the ecological network of open spaces between the extensive forest areas in the north and the significant forest areas that extend as far as Berlin in the south.

The Herthamoor has swamp forests made of alder and birch .

history

Around 1907 the Herthasee was artificially created as a bathing lake. After 1924 a bather in the mud stuck and drowned, only boat trips took place here until 1929th After that, the lake was used for breeding ducks, geese and fish.

To build the Berlin Wall , the Herthamoor was dried out and filled in. After the fall of the Wall , the Bergfelde municipality's wish to restore the bathing lake was not granted.

Renaturation

With the demolition of the wall, the restoration of the Herthamoor and the Loyalty Trench began in 1990.

The expert reports, which were carried out in the 1990s, served to prepare the renaturation of the moor on behalf of the Reinickendorf district . The examination of the moor after two years by the student project work showed a successful renaturation.

The German Forest Youth works annually on reforestation campaigns , with a former border tower serving as a base ( nature protection tower ) for the actors .

Ecological importance and research

The Hertha Moor is still one of barely encountered well-preserved peat bogs investigated thoroughly and in all its aspects through reports and project work.

Since 2000, the Department of Landscape Ecology / Ecology of Woods at the TU Berlin has continuously carried out long-term vegetation-ecological research work every year, which is designed on the one hand to record the effects of moderate land use on vegetation in terms of its sustainability and on the other hand, with a clear focus on long-term development To understand largely natural Anmoore with small bodies of water.

As part of the preparations for renaturation in 1991 by Gunkel and Lange, the Herthamoor became the subject of hydrogeological, limnological-ecological inventory and expert assessments. A project by Schubert and Stapelfeldt also includes a. A wealth of information on flora and fauna for the Herthamoor area and the upper Kindel river after renaturation.

Cold air generation area

The Herthamoor is located in a cold and fresh air generation area, which means areas that are characterized by the ability to equalize temperatures by means of temperature differences between undeveloped and built-up areas and by the dilution of gaseous air pollutants. A significant volume flow of cold air is directed into the Berlin urban area through this cold air generation area; However, it can also be assumed that in the small climatic framework, this area of origin is also important for large parts of Hohen Neuendorf with all of its districts.

Recreation area

The Herthamoor is located in an area that is of outstanding importance for the local recreation of both the Hohen Neuendorfer and the North Berlin population (including cycling and hiking trails, Wall Trail , nature protection tower, Hubertussee). This attractive recreational landscape is primarily used by hikers, cyclists and joggers, Bergfelder children and young people use the forest for mountain bike rides, the local schools for excursions, there is a forest kindergarten project in the Künstlerhof Frohnau .
