Herwig Lenau

Herwig Lenau , actually Herwig Richard Josef Sulzenauer , (born August 4, 1926 in Vienna , † December 22, 2010 in St. Pölten , Lower Austria ) was an Austrian theater director , actor and director .

Life

Herwig Lenau spent his childhood and school time mainly in Vienna. After studying with Zdenko Kestranek , teacher at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna, and Ms. Warda, he passed the stage entrance examination. He founded his own ensemble at the age of 15, but did not become a professional actor until 1965 in the Klagenfurt City Theater . Before that he was a member of the security guard in the service of the Vienna police from 1948 to 1965 .

During the Second World War he was taken prisoner by the Soviets and was interned in Bryansk , Novosybkow and Klinzy . After his release at the end of 1947, he joined the stage in Postgasse in 1949 , where he became deputy head of the section. He was senior theater director for drama at the Neue Wiener Bühne , the Wiener Boulevard Bühne , and also at Hans Fretzer's Girardi Theater . Since 1965, when he went to Klagenfurt as a director and actor , he was called Lenau . He worked for one season at the Landesbühne Schleswig-Holstein in Rendsburg , from 1969 he was senior director for all three branches and deputy director at the Stadttheater St. Pölten .

From 1972 to 1975 he was director of the Stadttheater Leoben , and from 1975 to 1991 director of the Stadttheater St. Pölten, which was later renamed the State Theater. In these years more than 1.1 million visitors could be counted and the total occupancy was more than 90 percent. The initial length of the theater season has been extended from seven months to almost eleven months.

The last two engagements included not only the sole artistic, but also the financial and administrative management of three branches (drama, opera, operetta) of the stages mentioned.

As a theater director, he oversaw over 4,000 performances, staged almost 200 plays or works and played 280 roles. Lenau died on December 22nd, 2010. His grave is in the St. Pölten main cemetery.
