Herwig Strobl
Herwig Strobl (born December 24, 1940 in Oberneukirchen / Mühlviertel ; † March 12, 2019 in Linz ) was an Austrian musician , writer and composer .
Life and family
Herwig Strobl was born as the third of four sons of Emma and the teacher Herbert Strobl in Oberneukirchen in the Mühlviertel in Upper Austria . In 1941 - during the Second World War - his father became the local group leader of the National Socialists (NS) in Reichenau im Mühlkreis , whereupon the family moved there. Two of Herwig Strobl's aunts fell victim to the Nazi euthanasia program ; they were gassed and burned in Hartheim Castle .
Herwig Strobl dedicated his life to music, by organizing “Jewish walks” in Linz to come to terms with the dark history of his family and to protect the environment.
Herwig Strobl has three sons.

Herwig Strobl suffered a heart attack during a concert in the Landesgalerie Linz . He did not come to a presentation of a new ensemble planned for June 2019.
Musical creation
He completed classical training on the violin , was a member of the Linz Chamber Orchestra (under Balduin Sulzer ) for about 15 years , concertmaster in the Linz Baroque Ensemble and in the Linz Chamber Choir under Helmut Eder , played in a piano trio and then made street music.
In the summer of 1982 he took part in a street music festival in Oldenburg with the Regensburg flautist Uli Förster . Then he became a member of the Vienna Ensemble for Yiddish songs " Geduldig un Thimann ". Herwig Strobl founded the ensemble 10 strings 1 bogen . From 1982 to 2006 he had around 1,500 gigs in 14 countries, including a. with Angels Company (with harpist Angela Stummer, Vienna) and with Michael Korth - songs by Carl Mich. Bellman "11 strings OSTGEFÄLLE" (with the Macedonian accordionist Atanas Dinovski: 2008 to April 2013 / CD: "From Dublin to Dubai").
The focus of his musical occupation was: Jewish music, including Klezmer, Celtic Folk and Swedish folk music. On his Bracciolina d´amore, a unique piece by the violin maker Falk Peters from Aachen , he recorded a solo CD at the suggestion of the concentration camp survivor Bernard Offen, Cracow : Improvisations to melodies by Mordechai Gebirtig in the 1995 restored Izaak Synagogue Cracow, their Acoustics are defined by seven seconds of reverberation.
