Michael Korth

Michael Korth (* 1946 in Lower Saxony) is a German author, singer and librettist.

Life

He studied music theory, performance practice of early music and singing at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. As a specialist in the music of the Middle Ages, he edited the works of the great poet singers in book and phonogram form. With HC Artmann , he also translated songs by the greatest poet composer of the 18th century, the Swede Carl Michael Bellman , into German. With his ensemble “ Bären Gässlin ” he gave concerts all over Europe. His protest song against the war was sung by Konstantin Wecker in February 2003 at a peace demonstration in Berlin by millions of peace demonstrators. Of his eighteen musical and opera librettos, eleven have so far been performed on renowned German theaters (e.g. Deutsche Oper Berlin, Deutsches Theater Munich, Opernhaus Halle). Korth has published numerous books, music documentaries, radio features and radio broadcasts on topics of cultural history. His works have been translated into fourteen languages. Michael Korth has lived in a remote forest house in the Waldviertel in Austria since 1979 .
