Heart of Mary (Regensburg)
The Catholic parish Heart Mary stands in the Rilke Strasse 17 in the west section of Regensburg .
history
The population growth in the west of Regensburg in the post-war period made it necessary to build a new parish center. The foundation stone was laid on August 12, 1962. The parish church, built according to plans by the Regensburg architect Helmut Wernhard, was consecrated on November 3, 1963 by Bishop Rudolf Graber . On January 1st, 1964 the parish Herz Marien was established. The church tower was renovated in 1998. With around 8000 Catholics, the parish is the largest in Regensburg.
building
The church is a simple building with a free-standing 36 m high tower and a church room with a T-shaped floor plan. The building comprises a west aisle, a north and a south aisle and offers 780 seats. The statue of the Virgin Mary is a copy of the " Madonna von Seeon " (original in the Bavarian National Museum in Munich ). The church windows in the north aisle with the representation of the "Heavenly Jerusalem" were redesigned in 1996 by Graham Jones from London.
The organ with 26 registers , divided into two manuals and a pedal, comes from Eduard Hirnschrodt and was manufactured in 1967. For reasons of cost, it was initially only carried out using one manual. In 1973 the instrument was completed.
