The Hessen was created on behalf of the Bad Karlshafen public utility company in 1992 based on the ideas of the former mayor of Bad Karlshafen Hans-Christian Wehmeier. Originally the name of the ship was supposed to be Grand Duchess of Hesse . Regular trips to Hannoversch Münden are made by ship from the An der Schlagd pier in Bad Karlshafen . Year-round charter trips of all kinds are also offered.
The ship
The ship is around 34 meters long and 8.20 meters wide and has an average draft of 58 centimeters (see passenger shipping on the Oberweser ). It is driven by two diesel engines with an output of 200 kW each . A bow thruster is available on each side of the ship to improve maneuverability. In 2006, the Hessen was equipped with two new main engines, which correspond roughly to the Euro 4 emissions standard . Each motor has an output of 200 kilowatts. The ship is approved for the transport of a maximum of 250 people. There are 100 seats in the Hessian salon , and another 100 seats are available on the covered upper deck. The open deck has 50 seats.
