Hetzendorfer cemetery
The Hetzendorfer Friedhof is an urban cemetery in the 12th district of Meidling in Vienna .
history
The originally Atzgersdorf belonging Hetzendorf 1783 by establishing a Lokalkaplanei (which corresponds to a parish) church independently. On November 2, 1784, the community's own new cemetery was inaugurated. In the years 1845, 1879, 1886 and 1889, the cemetery grounds were each expanded slightly after the construction of a new cemetery in 1876 failed due to excessive costs. In 1889 a mortuary and props room as well as a grave digger's apartment were built, and in 1901 the new cemetery cross was erected. In the 20th century, the cemetery was finally threatened with closure, as the cemetery was now in a completely built-up area. After a referendum in 1980 , however, it was decided that the Hetzendorfer cemetery should continue to exist. The dilapidated and provisional buildings that had existed until then were replaced by a new laying out hall in 1987/88.

The Hetzendorfer Friedhof is located on the district border to Hietzing at Elisabethallee 2 and is further limited by Graf Seilern-Gasse and the tracks of the connecting railway . It covers 7583 m² with 1100 grave sites. At the entrance is the funeral hall built in 1987/88 according to plans by Gisela Muhrhofer and Albert Zweymüller, the interior of which was designed by Christof Riccabona . The cast bronze altar cross was made by Hermann Bauch .
The most remarkable grave site in the small and atmospheric cemetery is the family grave of the noble von Dumreicher-Österreicher family. It dates from around 1847 and is in the form of a three-part neo - aedicula designed.
