Heudeberberg

The Heudeberberg is a 379 m high elevation on the northern edge of the Harz in the area of ​​the city of Wernigerode in Saxony-Anhalt .

Geographical location

The mountain is located north of the Wernigerode district of Hasserode and southeast of the Ilsenburg district of Darlingerode . To the north at the foot of the mountain was the Augustinian Hermit Monastery of Himmelpforten , which was heavily damaged in the Peasants' War in 1525 . The Kuhborn lies at the southern foot of the mountain .

history

The Heudeberberg was in the medieval county of Wernigerode . With a clever move, the Counts of Wernigerode tried to bind the subjects of the surrounding villages closer to them by granting the local farmers rights to use wood in their Harz forests. In 1253, for example, the "Hadebergeberg" was named. Here the village of Heudeber , located in the county of Regenstein , had timber usage rights.
