The Schronisko na Stogu Izerskim (German: Heufuderbaude ) is a mountain hut in the Polish part of the Jizera Mountains above Świeradów-Zdrój ( Bad Flinsberg ), a spa town in the powiat Lubański in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship .

Location and description

The Schronisko na Stogu Izerskim is located about 400 meters east-northeast of the summit of the mountain Stóg Izerski (Heufuder), after which it is named and which is the second highest mountain in the Polish Jizera Mountains. At 1060 meters, the hut is only 47 meters below the summit and 520 meters above Świeradów-Zdrój. The mountain station of the cable car coming from Świeradów-Zdrój is located about 100 meters east of the hut . In winter this serves as a feeder for the ski slope beginning below the chalet. The hut is at the beginning of the Sudeten main hiking trail . Territorially it belongs to the rural community ( Gmina ) Mirsk ( Friedeberg ).

The hut is built in the Silesian-Lusatian style, as indicated by the surrounding area on the gable front . A one-story building with a short side wing on the mountain side rises above a base made of natural stone. Under the sheet metal gable roof there is an attic with dormer windows . A glass veranda extends almost the entire length of the building on the north side. In addition to a large guest room, the house on the first floor offers accommodation for 50 guests in double to 10-person rooms.

The hut is open all year round. The north facing terrace offers a wide panoramic view.

history

The Bad Flinsberg spa doctor Josef Siebelt (1860–1942) found a cure from an illness in Bad Flinsberg at the age of 21, which later prompted him to settle here. He was instrumental in developing the area around Bad Flinsberg for tourism. When it was not possible to rebuild a destroyed lookout tower on the Heufuder, he suggested building a mine. For this idea he was able to win over the Riesengebirgsverein and the noble Schaffgotsch family . The latter contributed the building site and a considerable amount of money. The plans were made free of charge by the Wroclaw architect Paul Häusler.

The foundation stone was laid on September 17, 1922, and on October 24, 1924, the building was opened and handed over to a private tenant.

From 1926 a no longer preserved youth hostel was built in a small neighboring building.

The hut is still in operation today. After the Second World War it was taken over by the Polish tourism company PTTK . During renovations, the initial state of the building was essentially preserved.
