Heyo Eckel

Heyo Eckel (born February 8, 1935 in Berlin ) is a German radiologist and medical professional.

Life

As the son of the radiologist Paul Eckel , he studied medicine at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen , the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz , the Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen and the Georg August University Göttingen from 1955 . He is a member of the Corps Rhenania Tübingen (1955) and the Corps Borussia Halle (1956). After the state examination and doctorate (1962) he worked in the internal medicine of Hanoverian hospitals. From 1967 he was trained as a radiologist at the Hannover Medical School . He completed his habilitation in 1975 and became chief physician and medical director of the Evangelical Hospital in Göttingen-Weende . In 1981 he became an adjunct professor at the Georg August University. In 2006 he retired.

Honorary positions

Like his father, he was involved in professional politics and was elected to the chamber assembly of the Lower Saxony Medical Association in 1976. From 1990 to 2006 President of the Chamber, he was also involved in the German Medical Association in the areas of further education, training, environment and health. From 1995 to 2007 he was chairman of the German Senate for Medical Training. He is co-founder of the Children of Chernobyl Foundation of Lower Saxony , was deputy chairman of the foundation's board of trustees from 1992 to 1997, its chairman from 1997 to 2007 and has been deputy chairman again since then. Since his retirement, Eckel has looked after the prisoners at the Rosdorf correctional facility near Göttingen.
