The correctional facility Rosdorf (main facility ) is located on the outskirts of Göttingen in the municipality of Rosdorf . The correctional facility in Lower Saxony started regular operations after the completion of the new building in June 2007. The institution serves as a replacement for the former, now closed, correctional facility in Göttingen. It is classified as an institution of security level II and has a high security station of security level I with 10 detention places (two residential groups with five places each). The Rosdorf JVA is almost identical in construction to the Oldenburg correctional facility .

Factual and local jurisdiction

In the Rosdorf JVA prison sentences of up to 14 years are carried out on male adults in a closed prison . In addition, the prison is responsible for the execution of pre-trial detention . The local jurisdiction is based on the Lower Saxony instruction and enforcement plan . Pre-trial detention orders from a total of 14 district courts in Lower Saxony are being carried out in the Rosdorf prison . This concerns the entire regional court district of Göttingen (district courts Göttingen , Northeim , Einbeck , Duderstadt , Herzberg am Harz , Osterode am Harz and Hann. Münden ) as well as parts of the regional court districts Hildesheim (district courts Alfeld (Leine) , Elze and Holzminden ) and Braunschweig ( District Courts Bad Gandersheim , Clausthal-Zellerfeld and Seesen ) as well as the District Court Hameln . In principle, prisoners from the regional court districts of Göttingen, Bückeburg , Hildesheim, Braunschweig and Hanover are sentenced to prison , whereby the amount of the penalty is ultimately decisive for the institution to which a convicted criminal is assigned. Furthermore , prisoners are assigned by the central briefing department for Lower Saxony, the Hanover prison (EWK-Süd - Briefing Conference South).

In the course of the change in the Lower Saxony induction and enforcement plan in 2010, the "Göttingen Open Youth Prison" department was spun off from the Rosdorf Prison and incorporated as the second open department of the Hameln juvenile prison . The same applies to the youth detention center (JAA) Göttingen. The former “Social Therapeutic Institution for Men” in Bad Gandersheim , which was previously a department of the Sehnde JVA, was added to the Rosdorf JVA as a department .
