Hidayət Heydərov

Hidayət Minayət oğlu Heydərov (born July 27, 1997 ) is an Azerbaijani judoka . He won two bronze medals at world championships until 2019 and was European champion in 2017.

Athletic career

Hidayət Heydərov won the title in the weight class up to 60 kilograms at the U18 European Championships in 2013. Half a year later he was the champion of Azerbaijan in the weight class up to 66 kilograms. In 2014 he won the U18 European Championships in this weight class. At the 2015 World Championships , he was eliminated in his second fight against the German Sebastian Seidl . In October 2015 he won a bronze medal at the U21 World Championships. Then he switched to lightweight, the weight class up to 73 kilograms, and won bronze at the U23 European Championships in November 2015. In 2016 he won the U21 European Championships and the U23 European Championships.

At the 2017 European Championships in Warsaw he defeated the Swede Tommy Macias in the quarter-finals and the Hungarian Miklós Ungvári in the semifinals . He won the European title in the final with a victory over the Russian Musa Moguschkow . Three weeks later he won the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku, where he defeated his compatriot Rustam Orujov in the final . At the end of August 2017 he reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Budapest by defeating the Russian Denis Yarzew . After his semi-final defeat against the Japanese Soichi Hashimoto, he lost to the Mongol Ganbaataryn Odbajar in the battle for bronze . A fortnight after the World Championships, Hidayət Heydərov won the U21 European Championships. In October he then won the title at the U21 World Championships.

In 2018, Hidayət Heydərov only played a few tournaments. At the European Championships in Tel Aviv he won in the quarterfinals against Akil Gjakova from Kosovo and in the semifinals against the Belarusian Vadzim Shoka , in the final he was defeated by the Armenian Ferdinand Karapetjan . Five months later at the 2018 World Championships in Baku, he defeated Ganbaataryn Odbajar in the quarterfinals and lost to Soichi Hashimoto in the semifinals. In the battle for a bronze medal, he defeated the second Mongol Tsogtbaatar Tsend-Ochir .

In 2019, Hidayət Heydərov won the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Baku against the Israeli Tohar Butbul . The European Championships were held as part of the 2019 European Games in Minsk. Hidayət Heydərov lost to the Greek Georgios Azoidis in the quarterfinals . With victories over the Armenian Ferdinand Karapetjan and the Georgian Lascha Shawdatuaschwili, he won a bronze medal this time after gold in 2017 and silver in 2018. A fortnight later he reached the finals at the Universiade in Naples and was defeated by the Russian Evgeny Prokoptschuk . At the end of August at the World Championships in Tokyo he reached the semifinals by defeating the Tajiks Behruzi Khojazoda . After the semi-final defeat against his compatriot Rustam Orujov, he won a bronze medal with a victory over the second Tajik Somon Makhmadbekov like in 2018.
