Hieronymus Nikolaus Anton Cristani von Rall (* 1692/93; † June 10, 1751 in Salzburg ) was Salzburg court chancellor from 1731 to 1751 .

Live and act

He came from the lower Tridentine nobility and before Prince Archbishop Leopold Anton von Firmian appointed him to his government in March 1731, he had been a local judge in Firmian's native Tyrolean region .

His name is primarily associated with the great expulsion of Protestants of 1731/32, for whose cunning preparation and ruthless implementation he was responsible. Cristani decreed:

“The emigration patents must be enforced, it goes as it will. Suffer from those who can suffer, no mercy, no means, nothing else can be hoped for, it costs life, blood, money, and whatever it may be; and one will immediately make an example with the disobedient to disgust others, and also use force against the unruly. Therefore, the patentes rigorosissime and with the greatest diligence are to be carried out in all ways and without any discomfort . "

Cristani was the principal statesman of the archbishopric during the years of his administration. He enjoyed the full trust of the Prince Archbishops Leopold Anton Freiherr von Firmian and Jakob Ernst Graf von Liechtenstein . After the death of Prince Archbishop Jakob Ernst, he was ousted by the cathedral chapter, who exercised the interim rule (until the next archbishop took office) by restricting his responsibilities, but the subsequent Archbishop Andreas Jakob von Dietrichstein also valued him.

Cristani was accepted into the Salzburg state estates in 1732 .

In 1741 he acquired the Herrenau estate and castle and had it restored to its present form in the years 1741 to 1744.

He died on June 10, 1751 at the age of 59.

His children include:

  • Johann Nepomuk Claudius Torquatus Cristani von Rall (1729–1796), Austrian field marshal,
maybe too
  • Nicolò Cristani di Rallo (1731–1776), Imperial and Royal District Chief of Rovereto, Mozart student, and
  • Leopoldine Freifrau von Moll (* 1734), née Freiin Christani von Rall.

Katharina Countess Quabeck born was probably a granddaughter. Christani von Rall, who sold Herrnau Castle in 1805.
