from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hieronymus Sillem (born February 7, 1648 in Hamburg ; † November 10, 1710 there ) was a Hamburg councilor .

Origin and family

He was the seventh child of the Hamburg merchant and senior citizen in the parish of Sankt Petri Hinrich Sillem (1599–1662) with his second wife, Katharina Colin (1618–1691).

He married Margaretha Langenbeck, the daughter of councilor Garleff Langenbeck (1597–1662). In 1676 their son Garlieb Sillem was born. Daughter Catharina Sillem (1674–1706) married the Danish chancellery Peter Rentzel (1672–1722). The daughter Margaretha Sillem (1683–1746) married the church historian Nicolaus Staphorst (1679–1731) in 1706 . His wife's sister, Anna Maria († 1671) married the later mayor Heinrich Meurer in 1670 .

His sister Cäcilia († 1681) married Hieronymus Snitger (1648–1686). Another sister, Helena († 1692), married the mayor Joachim Lemmermann (1622-1704), one of Snitger's most ruthless opponents , in 1688 .

Life and work

On May 10, 1690, Sillem was elected councilor.

In October 1686, Snitger and Cord Jastram were executed. The licentiate of the rights Nicolaus Sillem (1649-1721) was punished as an accomplice of Snitger with ten years of exile and a heavy fine.

As praetor, Hieronymus Sillem had the citizen Martin Reese arrested for a coin offense on the orders of the council. Thereupon he was deposed as councilor by the Hamburg city council in 1696 . The Council's steps to restore it have been in vain. It was not until 1709 that Sillem was rehabilitated by the imperial commission.

The bailiff August Wygand (1657–1709) accused his wife of having poisoned his boyfriend.
