The High Ledges Wildlife Sanctuary is a 629 acres (2.5 square kilometers ) wide reserve in Shelburne in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . It is administered by the Massachusetts Audubon Society .
Protected area
The sanctuary offers a good view of the Deerfield River valley to Mount Greylock . It has a very wide variety of wildflowers, including native orchids and rare ferns . According to a local legend, the last wolf in the region is said to have been killed in the geological formation Wolve's Den ( German "Wolfsbau" ) . There are 5 mi (8 km ) of hiking trails available to visitors.
