Hightae is a village in the Scottish Council Area Dumfries and Galloway or the traditional county of Dumfriesshire . It is located around three kilometers south of Lochmaben and four kilometers southwest of Lockerbie near the right bank of the Annan . About 1.5 km to the northwest is the Hightae Mill Loch lake .
history
In the 14th century, the Rammerscales estate near Hightae was part of the Holmain estate . It was the Scottish King David II who awarded Holmain to the Carruthers clan in 1361 . This subsequently provided the region's lairds . James Mounsey acquired Rammerscales in the late 1750s. Mounsey had lived in Russia for some time and was the personal physician of the future Russian Empress Catherine the Great . He had today's Rammerscales House built. There was probably a previous structure at the site.
In 1796 a Presbyterian church building was built in Hightae with the Hightae Parish Church . The parish has meanwhile been united with two surrounding churches and services are held in rotation in the three former parish churches.
While in 1881 there were still 324 inhabitants in Hightae, the number sank to 189 in the 1971 census survey.
traffic
The A709 is a national long-distance road in Lochmaben. Via Carrutherstown there is a connection to the A75 ( Stranraer - Gretna Green ) within a few kilometers .
