Hilcorp is an American exploration and oil and gas exploration company . The company, founded in 1989, claims to be the largest independent, non-listed exploration and production company in the United States.

Hilcorp produces oil and gas in several US states. These include Alaska , Louisiana , Pennsylvania , Ohio , Texas, and Wyoming . The company is also active in the San Juan Basin , a development area that extends over the four states of Arizona , Colorado , New Mexico and Utah . Hilcorp's operations are mainly limited to New Mexico. The company is the largest gas producer in Alaska and the largest producer of oil in Louisiana. Hilcorp is the eighth largest gas producer in Texas.

In August 2019, it was announced that the oil company BP would be selling its entire business in the US state of Alaska for the equivalent of around 5.1 billion euros to Hilcorp Alaska LLC, based in Anchorage . BP most recently employed around 1,600 people in Alaska. The sales volume includes BP's 26 percent stake in the Prudhoe Bay oil field and BP's stake in the Trans-Alaska pipeline .
