Hildegard Hammerschmidt-Hummel

Hildegard Hammerschmidt-Hummel (born January 21, 1944 in Bad Wünnenberg ) is a German English scholar and literary scholar .

Career

Hildegard Hammerschmidt-Hummel studied English , American , history and political science in Marburg from 1967 to 1972 . In 1972 she received her doctorate with the dissertation "The historical drama in England (1956-1971)". 1977 habilitation they are in Mainz on "The import commodities trading city of London as voice and image area of Elizabethan drama." 1978/79 she was a board member of the Association of Scientists at Research Institutes eV in Munich . In 1978 she became head of the cultural department at the German Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Toronto ( German Consul for Cultural Affairs ). There she worked on the scientific framework program for the art exhibition "German Masters of the Nineteenth Century" in the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto.

In 1982 Hammerschmidt-Hummel resumed teaching at the University of Mainz. She became a senior research assistant at the Shakespeare picture archive there, from 1996 at the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature , founded by Horst Oppel . As part of the DFG and academy project "The Shakespeare Illustration", she took over the expansion and edition of the collection of the Shakespeare picture archive. In 1984/85 she was visiting professor for British and American Studies at the University of Kassel , and in 1996/97 she received a DFG research grant for the book project "Authentic Portraits of William Shakespeare".

Scientific work

Since 1972 Hammerschmidt-Hummel has published numerous work- and author-centered articles on Shakespeare research, including a compendium with 3000 visual artistic illustrations for Shakespeare's dramas.
