Aldenhoven auxiliary hospital

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Aldenhoven auxiliary hospital in Aldenhoven in the Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia , was one of around 160 auxiliary hospitals in Germany .

The federal government financed the additional costs for the rooms under the secondary school with an expense of around DM 3.1 million at the time . The auxiliary hospital was inaugurated in the fall of 1976. 400 hospital beds were housed in this building, safe from rubble and radiation. There were also 84 beds for the staff. Operating rooms, an ambulance and a plaster room as well as X-ray, laboratory and sterilization rooms and a kitchen also belonged to the hospital. A self-sufficient supply was ensured via its own well and an emergency power supply. The basic equipment was available in Aldenhoven. Further medical supplies were stored in a special hall in Vossenack, about 40 km away .

The auxiliary hospital was affiliated to the St. Elisabeth Hospital in Jülich as the parent hospital .

At the beginning of the 1990s, the Aldenhoven auxiliary hospital and the warehouse in Vossenack were closed.

Currently (September 2010) the Cologne District Government is trying to donate the premises to the municipality of Aldenhoven. Because of the necessary investments of millions, the community does not see itself in a position to take over the rooms.
