Hilmar Fenge

Hilmar Fenge (born October 28, 1931 in Leipzig ) is a German lawyer and former university professor .

Life

Hilmar Fenge was born in Leipzig and grew up in Berlin, East Prussia, Baden and Hesse. In 1951, after graduating from the Friedrichs-Gymnasium in Kassel, he began studying law in Marburg , which he continued in Geneva and graduated in 1955 in Heidelberg with the first state examination in law. After the subsequent legal clerkship in Baden-Württemberg, he passed his assessor exam in Stuttgart in 1960. As a result, he returned to Heidelberg University as a research assistant and received his doctorate there in 1961. jur. In 1969 he completed his habilitation in Heidelberg and acquired the venia legendi for the subjects of civil law, civil procedural law and legal methodology.

This was followed by substitute professorships at the universities of Heidelberg, Mainz , Bonn and Hamburg before he took up an unscheduled professorship in Heidelberg in 1973. In 1980 he moved to the University of Hanover to take a chair in civil law and civil procedure law. Fenge held this chair until his release in 1999. In the meantime (1985/86) he was Dean of the Law Faculty of the University of Hanover. In 1997/98 he was President of ELFA (European Law Faculties Association).

Throughout his academic career Hilmar Fenge from were Université de Rouen (1991), the Catholic University of Lisbon (2003), the Université du Havre (2004) and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2008), honorary doctorates awarded.
