history

New hut house of the Himmelsfürst mine (2009)

The place St. Michaelis was first mentioned in a document in 1348. With the beginning of silver mining in Freiberg mountain area, the Himmelsfürst treasure trove was awarded in the southern corridor of St. Michaelis in 1572 . She lay in the southwest of the Freiberger mining area and was in the 19th century together with the Assumption mine the most profitable and most famous Saxon ore mine . The mine was known for its rich silver .

A small settlement developed around the treasure trove, but politically it always belonged to St. Michaelis and thus until 1856 was subordinate to the electoral or royal Saxon district office of Freiberg , from 1856 to the court office of Brand and from 1875 to the administration of Freiberg . With the opening of the Brand-Erbisdorf-Langenau railway line on July 15, 1890, a stop was inaugurated in Himmelsfürst. It was in operation until the line was closed in 1997. The dilapidated wooden waiting hall and a railway viaduct in the village bear witness to this time to this day. Between 1946 and 1969 mining was carried out again in the Himmelsfürst mine, after which it was shut down. Numerous facilities, including the hut house, have been preserved to this day. Through the second district reform in the GDR, Himmelsfürst and St. Michaelis came to the Brand-Erbisdorf district in the Chemnitz district in 1952 (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ). Since the incorporation of St. Michaelis into the town of Brand-Erbisdorf on October 1, 1993, St. Michaelis has formed the locality of St. Michaelis with its district of Himmelsfürst and the district of Linda, which was incorporated in 1950 . As a district of Brand-Erbisdorf, St. Michaelis came from the Saxon district of Brand-Erbisdorf to the district of Freiberg in 1994 and to the district of Central Saxony in 2008.

traffic

The Himmelsfürst stop on the Brand-Erbisdorf – Langenau line was opened on July 15, 1890 in the Himmelsfürst district and dedicated to the station in 1905. In 1933 it was downgraded to a stop and in 1964 to a stop. Up until the end of mining, there were two sidings in the area of the station to shafts for the Himmelsfürst treasure trove located there. The breakpoint went out of service on June 1, 1997. The wooden waiting room is still available on site.
