Hinrich John

Hinrich John (born May 11, 1936 in Kiel ) is a former German athlete and Olympic participant who - starting for Germany - was a successful 110-meter hurdler in the 1960s . He won the silver medal (14.0 s) at the European Athletics Championships in 1966 .

At the European Indoor Games in Dortmund in 1966 , John was third in the 60 meter hurdles.

He reached the semifinals of the 1964 Summer Olympics and 1968 Summer Olympics . (1964: 14.1 s; 1968: 13.8 s). From 1964 to 1968 he was German champion over 110 meter hurdles. In 1965 he also won the championship title over the last 200-meter hurdles course held that year.

Hinrich John was a member of the Hannover 96 club . During his competition time he was 1.83 m tall and weighed 76 kg. In 1968 he received the Rudolf Harbig Memorial Prize . For his services to sport in Lower Saxony , he was included in the Lower Saxony Sports Honor Gallery of the Lower Saxony Institute for Sports History.

He was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on May 20, 1968 for his athletic achievements.

In 1968 Hinrich John was a lieutenant captain in the German Navy and head of the regular company at the Naval Telecommunications School in Flensburg - Mürwik .
