Hinrich Matthiesen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hinrich Matthiesen (born January 29, 1928 in Westerland / Sylt , † July 19, 2009 in Morsum ) was a German crime thriller.

Life

Hinrich Matthiesen came from an old Sylt captain's family. He grew up in Lübeck, where he went to school from 1934 to 1945. At the age of seventeen he was drafted as a soldier in February 1945 and sent to the Eastern Front, where he was taken prisoner by the Soviets in the same year. Back in Germany, he began studying at the University of Kiel in 1948. According to the family tradition of taking up the profession of captain, it was not possible for him because of the consequences of the war - Germany had lost most of its ocean-going ships. From 1951 he traveled to France, Spain, Central and South America. He continued his studies at the University of Valparaíso / Chile and subsequently worked at German schools abroad in Chile and Mexico. There he began his writing activity. After a stay in Germany, where he also worked as a teacher , he went to Mexico for another year.

Matthiesen lived as a freelance writer in Morsum on Sylt since the mid-1980s , where he also died in July 2009. His novels are also valued by his readers because of the detailed research and the harmonious local color .
