Behind the windows is a diploma film from the GDR Academy for Film and Television by Petra Tschörtner from 1984 .

action

Behind the window asked three married couples, in their mid to late twenties, about their experiences with the marital partnership. You live in the same anonymous new building block in Potsdam .

Christel and Rüdiger

At the beginning of the episode, Christel tells how she got together with her husband: They met on August 16, they ordered a wall unit on September 9, they got engaged on September 9, and they got married on March 3 . The first few years of marriage were terrible because they both have the same character. Then their daughter Andrea was born, her husband went to Mondays and on the weekend they had no more time to quarrel. When Rüdiger once raised his hand against them while drinking alcohol, Christel filed for divorce, which they then doused with a bottle of champagne. They were separated for 3 months and then came back together. Now they have a new, beautiful apartment, which makes it easier to live together, and two children.

Birgit and Rüdiger

Birgit is a teacher and Rüdiger is studying, which is why he can look after their child. While lying in the bathtub with his daughter, he plays around with her, but cannot be moved to give any answers. Only after Birgit takes the child out of the bathtub and brings it into her room does Rüdiger light a cigarette in the bathtub and answer the questions. Only when repeatedly asked about a relationship outside of marriage or acquaintances with other women does he respond evasively. His self-absorbed demeanor suggests that he is not always loyal.

Karin and Lutz

Karin studied and Lutz is a locksmith. However, both claim that this educational difference does not negatively affect their marriage. Only when Karin points out a possibly planned further education course abroad does Lutz take a totally negative attitude. There is no way he will allow that, because it would destroy their marriage. Then he would rather leave her, but still fight for the marriage. But the topic is not current at the moment, because they are preparing to move to his parents on the Baltic Sea. Lutz feels uncomfortable in Potsdam and needs the country life as well as the quiet, also because the surroundings are probably more pleasant for the sick child they share. Karin moves in with him, even if she wonders how he would react if she had suggested moving in with her parents.
