The FFH area (Fauna-Flora-Habitat) "Hinterer Bruch south of Heppenheim" (BfN-ID 6317-306) is located in the Bergstrasse-Odenwald Geo-Nature Park and belongs to the city of Heppenheim .

location

The FFH area borders on the Heppenheimer Bruchsee to the south and covers a total area of ​​approx. 0.17 km² (16.94 ha). In the south, the Bombach flows through the area.

Protected area

The "Hinterer Bruch south of Heppenheim" protected area is a fauna-flora-habitat (FFH) area that is part of the Natura 2000 protected area system, which is networked across Europe . The action plan for the FFH area dated July 10, 2008 describes the conservation objectives.

The protected area is located in the area of ​​the so-called Altneckar loops, which formed as the former Neckar river bed continued to silt up. Reeds and damp bushes characterize the core area. Some pools are ideal for amphibians such as newts , toads and frogs . The largest occurrence of the very rare crested newts in southern Hesse can be found here .

As early as 1982, the city ceded the area to the Nabu for care under a lease agreement , which has since been responsible for the protection of amphibians and birds.
