Rear Schwabinger Tor
The rear Schwabinger Tor was one of the five city gates of the first city wall of medieval Munich, built towards the end of the 12th century . It was one of the two gates in the north of the old town and was located roughly where the Schäfflerstrasse meets the Weinstrasse today (Weinstrasse 11).
history
The gate was first mentioned in a document in 1325 under the name turris apud amphoram (tower by the amphora). It was also used as Wilbrechtsturm (14th century), Schäffler tower , Tömlingerturm or Nudelturm referred.
Occasionally the term Inner Schwabinger Tor is also used, but it is ambiguous, as it also refers to the Front Schwabinger Tor .
The rear Schwabinger Tor was a simple tower with a gate passage. It was used at times as an armory in which ballistae , crossbows and the associated ammunition were kept. In 1691 the gate was demolished.
