Hipólito Ruiz López (born August 8, 1754 in Belorado , † 1815 in Madrid ) was a Spanish botanist .

Life

Together with José Antonio Pavón y Jiménez , he traveled to Chile , Peru and other South American countries from 1779 to 1788 . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Ruiz "; the joint authorship of Ruiz López and Pavón y Jiménez is abbreviated in botanical literature as “ Ruiz & Pav. ”.

Honors

In his honor, was now called monotypic respected plant genus Ruizia from the family of Mallow named (Malvaceae). The only species in the genus, Ruizia cordata , is endemic to the island of Reunion . The plant genus Ruizodendron R.E.Fr. from the Annonaceae family has been named after him.
