Hippocoon (son of Hyrtakos)

Hippocoon ( Greek  Ἱπποκόων , the horse connoisseur ), the son of Hyrtakos, was a Thracian in Greek mythology who fought on the side of Troy in the Trojan War . He was the cousin of the Thracian king Rhesus .

Diomedes and Odysseus had invaded the Thracian camp at night. While Diomedes murdered Rhesus and twelve others in his sleep, Odysseus stole the four white horses of Rhesus. When Hippocoon arrived, the two had already fled and his comrades were dead.

After the fall of Troy, Hippocoon accompanied Aeneas on his journey. In competitions organized by Aeneas, he won the archery competition.
