history

A Catholic parish was formed through the influx of Catholic refugees and displaced persons as a result of the Second World War . Their services were held in an emergency church at Leipziger Strasse 19.

The foundation stone of today's church was laid on May 22, 1966, and its consecration on December 11 of the same year .

Since November 1st, 2006 the church has belonged to the parish of St. Bernward , at that time almost 1000 Catholics belonged to the Holy Trinity , whose catchment area was the Stöckheim district. The church building has been rented to the Syrian Orthodox community of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel since August 1, 2013, but is still occasionally used by the Catholic community for weekday services and events. On September 1, 2017, in addition to the church building, the parsonage and parsonage were also given to the Syrian Orthodox community.

Architecture and equipment

The towerless, oval, twelve-sided central building was built according to plans by the Brunswick architect Wolfgang Tschirschwitz and is around 75 meters above sea level .
