The Hochjochferner is a glacier in the Ötztal Alps between the Schnalstal and Venter Tal .

Dimensions

It extends in the south from the Grawandspitze ( 3251  m ) and the Fineilspitze ( 3514  m ) to the Hochjoch ( 2750  m ) and into the Rofental . Its area was around 6 km² in 2006.

The Hochjochferner is measured from the Grawand about 3 km long, the greatest measured thickness is 45 m. The height difference from the highest to the lowest point of the glacier is 720 m.

Since 2008, the following retreats on the glacier tongue have been measured as part of the glacier report of the Austrian Alpine Club :

Tourist use

The western part (approx. 30 ha) of the glacier was used as a year-round ski area until 2012 .
