The side stream, so-called at the lower reaches and a total of over 9 km long, flows through the retention basin. It is a right tributary of the Aich in Waldenbuch . The small reservoir in natural surroundings was built in 1981. It is dammed by a 15.21 m high and about 240 m long earth dam, on the top of which the K 1050 runs from Weil to Waldenbuch. In permanent damming, the dam holds back 45,000 m³, which covers an area of 1.1 ha, the surface then reaches a little below 400 m above sea level. NHN . In the event of flooding, it holds back up to a further 262,000 m³, which can then be drained in a controlled manner. The catchment area is about 6.0 km².
The flood retention basin is operated by the Aich water association.
Inspection in 2018
According to a press release from the Böblingen District Office, the lake should be drained in late autumn 2018 to control the facilities. It was warned of danger to life because people entering the lake bottom could sink into the thick layer of mud deposited.
