geography
The Hauenstein farm is located in the Kahlgrund between the Oberschur district of Krombach and the Mömbris market . The Hauenstein castle ruins are not far from today's large farm . The Degen-Weg leads past the courtyard .
Surname
The name Hauenstein refers to the Hauberg economy operated in this area in earlier times . It is a type of original exchange economy, in which forest and agriculture alternated on the same piece of land at regular intervals.
history
In 1841 the farm - partly made of stones from the Hauenstein castle ruins , not far from today's Hauenstein farm - was built by Baron Waitz v. Eschen, with an area of around 340 hectares at the time. After a relatively short existence, the huge areas of the estate were divided into small parcels and sold.
The courtyard itself was divided in 1896. The current property area on each side of the courtyard is approx. 20 ha. The courtyard is now a listed building. During the Second World War , vacant parts of the building had to be used as military training camps and as a means of directing refugees. The farm has retained its agricultural origins to this day.
The farm is located on the Spessart cultural path “ Birkenhainer Straße - Im Krombacher Landgericht ” and is described in panel 7 (like Hauenstein Castle).
