from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Viehbrook farm is a cultural monument of the State of Schleswig-Holstein as well as a rural cultural, educational and adventure center. It is located between Bornhöved and Neumünster in the community of Rendswühren .

history

The farm was operated as a farmer's place as early as the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1875 existing buildings were partially replaced and expanded. The farm was then run in the 19th and 20th centuries as a farmer's place with an inn and forge . Through agriculture and animal husbandry , he provided the people in the area with food that was also offered in the inn. In the forge, the carriage and field horses were shod and agricultural machinery built, repaired and maintained. It was also a wheelwright , whose wagon wheels were known throughout the country. With two master blacksmiths, two journeymen and several apprentices, the forge was a relatively large company. It was built in its current form in 1875 and is the successor to a much older forge that was previously on the site. It was in business until the 1950s, but lost its importance with the advent of industrial production and technical progress. Since the 1960s the farm has been run as a farm and since 1990 has only been used as a residential building.

Cultural monument

Since November 2008 the Viehbrook farm has been a cultural monument of the state of Schleswig-Holstein and is a listed building . The buildings were classified as particularly worthy of protection by the State Office for Monument Preservation and the Monument Protection Authority of the Plön district . The reasons for the listed building of the yard are manifold. On the one hand there is a historic smithy in the yard, which still houses the original equipment today. These include wrought typical equipment such as the Esse and the anvil , but also machinery of historical importance. There is also a bakery on the premises . Bakehouses were typical of rural life in northern Germany. They were used to bake and roast. The main building of the courtyard was used in many ways in earlier times. It consists of the former restaurant building, the living area, the old hall and the stable buildings with the straw floors.

Todays use

The Voss family bought the old family farm in April 2008 and developed a new usage concept for the building and the entire site. At that time, the old farmer's place, which in earlier times had a blacksmith's shop and an inn in addition to agriculture, had been a rest farm for 20 years . The aim was to turn the old farmer's place into a modern rural culture, education and adventure center. The buildings were completely restored and rebuilt for the new use. The farm is a registered cultural monument and since July 2009 a lighthouse project of the active regions of Schleswig-Holstein. The new use of the old farm is a mixture of agriculture, education, gastronomy, leisure and tourism. There is also a self-service farm shop on the Viehbrook farm based on the MarktTreff concept. This concept stands for local supply and quality of life in rural areas.
