from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hofgut Georgenau is an estate in the Calw district to the southwest of the Möttlingen district of Bad Liebenzell .

history

The building of the Hofgut goes back to Peter Hermann von Franken. He became forester in Liebenzell in 1711 and began to buy land a few years later. The first buildings were erected in 1727; ten years later, the son Wilhelm Friedrich Hermann von Franken took over the property and enlarged it to 95 acres.

The main building was erected in 1739. The orphanage administrator Christian Wilhelm Langenhagen from Pforzheim bought the property in 1749. In 1761 it passed into the hands of Heinrich Mögling. He was court advisor and court judge in Stuttgart and increased the property by another 32.5 acres . He died in 1799. The farm, which Mögling had led to success using modern methods, deteriorated under the subsequent owner Wilhelm Adam Beck and was foreclosed in 1806. The stuff manufacturer Jacob Schill from Calw took it over and ran it successfully. The now 160 acres (48.5 hectares) property was auctioned after Schill's death in 1841 and became the property of the Möttlingen municipality, which, however, sold it again in 1856 due to financial difficulties. The new owner, a landowner Messner from Stammheim , wanted to set up an agriculture school for the poor, but was unsuccessful. The estate was sold again as early as 1859, this time to Alphons Georgii from the Dicke farm near Stammheim. Two years later Alphons Georgii sold the estate to his brother Emil Wilhelm . With the approval of the king in 1862, he named the estate, which was temporarily called Bühlhof, the name Georgenau. Emil Wilhelm Georgii enlarged the property again, ran the farm successfully and took care of modernizations and extensions to the buildings. Among other things, a large flight of stairs was built. In 1870 Emil Wilhelm Georgii was raised to the hereditary nobility and was now named after his estate Emil Wilhelm von Georgii-Georgenau.

In 1874, a Roman head of a god was excavated in one of the fields of the estate. Today it is built into a side portal. After this find, the park was designed "Roman". Among other things, a corner tower in the Roman style was built.

The estate remained in the possession of the von Georgii-Georgenau family until 1931. The heir at the time sold it to Otto Uebele , who leased it. After the Second World War , Otto Uebeles son took over the property; as a war invalid , however, he had great difficulty managing the estate and soon exchanged it for another property. In 1952 Dieter Frank took over the Georgenau estate from Schwäbisch Hall . In 1971 an attempt to turn the farm into a recreational park failed. It was then sold in 1975 to Georg von Reden-Lütcken, a son-in-law of the then tenant family. With the support of the Monument Office, the estate was extensively restored from 1988 onwards. In 1990 the owner family received the monument protection award for the restoration of the baroque facades of the main building and the restoration of the ruined architecture in the park. The aim of their efforts was to restore the condition around 1887. Today the estate serves as an agricultural business with a farm shop, horse boarding house and riding school.
