history

Möttlingen was first mentioned in the 10th century as Mettelingen . The place was divided into two parts: one part belonged to the Truchsessen von Waldeck, who ceded it to Württemberg in 1411. The other part belonged to the free imperial city of Weil from 1389 to 1865 , which, however, had to accept the suzerainty of Württemberg from the end of the 15th century. In the area of the current district lies the deserted St. Leonhard, the remains of an abandoned chapel.
