history

The stadium was officially inaugurated on June 5, 1932. After the new floodlights went into operation in September 2005, the stadium expansion began in November 2006. On the "north side" a covered standing room was built into which the existing standing cross bars were integrated. The cost of the standing room amounted to 50,000 euros. In October 2007, construction of the roofed main grandstand began on the "south side" and was opened to spectators in summer 2008. The city of Leer and the Kreissportbund supported the project, which cost almost 400,000 euros, with 150,000 euros and 80,000 euros.

The Leeraner Hoheellern Stadium experienced its most successful period in the years 1956 to 1963, when the club played its games in the Lower Saxony-West amateur league (at that time the second-highest German division) and Sepp Piontek went hunting for goals for the club before the season started In 1960/61 moved to Werder Bremen . Another highlight was the promotion round match to the Oberliga Nord against Bergedorf 85 in front of 4,500 spectators in 1978. After the stadium expansion, the 2008/09 season was the most successful season in the Oberliga Niedersachsen West with games against SV Meppen , VfB Oldenburg and SV Arminia Hannover .

On May 19, 2016, the Hoheellern Stadium hosted a junior international match for the first time. In front of 3,365 spectators, the German U15 national team beat the Netherlands 1-0. This was also the start of the new U15 age group in the international season.
