Hohen Niendorf is a district of the municipality of Bastorf in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

geography

The place is located on an elevation about 1.5 kilometers southeast of Bastorf. The next larger city is the Ostseebad Kühlungsborn about five kilometers away.

Hunting lodge

In the southwest of the village is located on the edge of the forest in the mountain range cooling the Gut Hohen Niendorf , since 1859 owned by the Friedrich Bobsin family. The hunting lodge zu Hohen Niendorf with a castle park of around 70,000 m² was built in 1865 as a historicizing manor house by the Wismar architect Heinrich Thormann . In 1913, Sophie von Oertzen owned the castle, followed by Count v. Wilamowitz-Möllendorff . The plastered, two- to three-story brick building was expanded in 1912 according to plans by the architect Gustav Hamann and changed into a hunting lodge and received a four-story tower.

The palace park was laid out in 1866 as an English landscape garden according to the plans of the Rostock garden architect Wilken . Several prehistoric soil monuments were included. It includes a large meadow, various types of trees and a pond. Worth seeing are, for example, the around 15 meter high ilex and a gnarled holm oak that are over 120 years old, as well as rhododendrons that grow throughout the park and a variety of spruce and other natural woods that come from North America, the Caucasus, Asia Minor and Japan .

In 1945 the land reform ( Junkerland in peasant hands ) started here. In the 1970s, the manor house served the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB) as a vacation home. Several owners tried to keep the building in the 1980s until 1995, but failed because of the dilapidated substance.

The castle and the park are under monument protection and were renovated from spring 2009. The complete completion took place in June 2010. 21 holiday apartments were built, which contribute to the liveliness of the place. The buildings in the park are currently being renovated (as of January 2014).

The park with its large stone graves, bronze sculptures and the swan pond is semi-public and can be used for walks. The bronze sculptures are test casts and were discovered while clearing the park. The originals are in the pedestrian zone in Rostock.
