Hohenberg is a district of the Seeshaupt municipality in the Weilheim-Schongau district in Bavaria . The district road WM10 connects the northeastern Seeshaupt with Hohenberg.

The spacious hamlet consists of a few houses and is named after the 703 meter high Hohenberg of the same name .

history

Hohenberg was first mentioned in 1135 in connection with the Bernried monastery , which had been founded fourteen years earlier and was one of the possessions of Hohenberg. In 1356 the settlement got a chapel dedicated to Maria Magdalena and Katharina .

Since January 1873 the place has been licensed , which was granted to the then owner Konstantin Schägger by the mayor of Arnried , to whom Hohenberg belonged at that time. In 1889 the inn and the chapel were sold by Schägger to Karl Freiherr von Podewils (1843–1893), who had a hunting villa , known as Hohenberg Castle , built on the 693-meter-high Buckelsberg to the west .

Already in 1897 the property went to the Swabian Wilhelm Freiherr Schertlin von Burtenbach , in 1903 to Willibald Freiherr von Beck-Peccoz from Hallertau . Hohenberg has been owned by the Thurn und Taxis family since 1931 . Albert's youngest son Philipp (1908–1964) acquired this area of land including the hunting lodge, which is still owned by the family.

Until March 31, 1938 the place belonged to the dissolved municipality of Arnried .
