Holm Vogel

Holm Vogel (born December 7, 1939 in Meiningen ) is a German organist and church musician.

Life

Holm Vogel attended the blind schools in Weimar and Chemnitz , and then passed the Abitur at the blind school in Königs Wusterhausen in 1958. He then began to study church music in Leipzig at the State University of Music - Mendelssohn Academy with Robert Köbler (organ), Karl Zieschang (piano) and Johannes Weyrauch (composition). He passed his A-exam with distinction. The course was followed by a study visit to the world- famous Bach interpreter Helmut Walcha in Frankfurt am Main . This is certainly why the study of Johann Sebastian Bach's music , particularly Bach's cantatas, has become the central theme for Vogel .

From 1968 to 1986 Vogel was a church musician in Leipzig's Andreasgemeinde , where he also composed an Easter story for the community. In 1987 he and his wife Christine took up the position at the Paul Gerhardt Church .

From 2000 to 2008 Christine and Holm Vogel supervised the church music of the Church of the Resurrection . With great commitment Holm Vogel Leipzig, who sat there for the preservation of the oldest organ pork - Mendelssohn -Orgel 1766, a. By founding the association for the support of pork-Mendelssohn-Orgel e. V. he was able to collect around 40,000 euros. With these donations and further funds from the regional council of Leipzig and the Saxon regional church, the instrument was officially inaugurated on October 3, 2004.

Vogel is a lecturer in the subjects of organ and improvisation at the University of Music in Leipzig (where he was appointed professor in 2000) and at the University of Church Music in Halle (Saale) .

Vogel was and is also active as a concert organist at home and abroad (USA, Holland, Norway). In his concerts, those of his pronounced sense of style occupy a large space because of famous improvisations.
