The Evangelical Lutheran Holtenser Church is a monument in Holtensen in the municipality of Wennigsen (Deister) . It is surrounded by two natural monuments in the form of trees, which, like the church, are located on Linderter Strasse in the center of the village.

history

The church was first mentioned in a document in 1329. A "Jordanus rector ecclesiae in Spolholtusen" is mentioned in the document. Two years later the church was transferred by means of a deed of purchase and from then until 1890 it was under the patronage of the Wennigsen monastery . In the 14th or 15th century the church interior was built with three cross vaults . Until the Reformation the church was consecrated to Saint George . The change to the Protestant church took place on the basis of the visitation order of November 4, 1542 by Antonius Corvinus . The pastor at the time, Johann Vilther, had to go to the Pattensen town hall for the visitation commission. A brotherhood St. Antonii is said to have existed there as a caland .

During the Thirty Years' War the church was looted by Tilly's soldiers in 1626 and the bell stolen. In 1819 the church received an organ for the first time. In 1887, the church was rebuilt, two aisles and the chancel were added, as well as the sacristy and a new altar . The church was badly damaged in World War II . An American bomber fell next to the church in 1943, damaging both the roof and the windows. In the same year, a bunker was built right next to the church at the crash site.

Natural monuments

There are two natural monuments on the green space that surrounds the church . A chestnut ensemble that is more than 100 years old can be found on the west side. The horse chestnuts are listed as a natural monument ND-H 19 in the Hanover region . The group is worthy of protection due to its special local appearance due to its arrangement around the church [...]. As a tree ensemble, old chestnuts are rare and therefore worth protecting. To the east of the church is the natural monument ND-H 31, a pedunculate oak . This is protected due to its age and its connection with the chestnut group.

Sexton's house and church buildings

West of the church is the parish's old sexton's house. The striking half-timbered building was initially the home of the church warden and was used as the Holtenser village community center (DGH) from 1975. In 1993, a municipal children's play area moved into the building, which became a kindergarten in 2006. The parish initially used the DGH. In 1988 the new parish hall was built south-east of the church, this is right next to the pastor's house.

Parish

Today the church belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Holtensen-Bredenbeck and is looked after by the Ronnenberg church district office .
