Holzhäuser is a village in the municipality of Risch in the canton of Zug in Switzerland . Until 1798 it was the main town of the bailiwick of Gangolfswil . On December 31, 2012, wooden houses had 650 inhabitants.

The village

Timber houses is the central traffic junction in the municipality of Risch. Until the construction of the national highways, the long-distance routes Germany - Basel - Aarau - Gotthard - Italy (today 368 ) and Munich - Zurich - Lucerne - Lausanne (today 4 ) crossed, which led to the development of the small village. Holzhäusern is located directly at the Rotkreuz motorway exit of the A4 and the motorway triangle Holzhäusern / Rütihof of the A4 Schaffhausen - Zurich / Zug - Gotthard and the A14 Rotkreuz - Lucerne. Wooden houses from Rotkreuz, Cham and Hünenberg can be reached by bus. The St. Wendelin Church and the golf course of the Ennetsee Golf Club, the Rotkreuz-Holzhäusern Golf Park, which is the largest in Central Switzerland and is operated by the Migros Lucerne Cooperative, are located in wooden houses . Holzhäuser has its own primary school .

history

Timber houses originally means "near the houses by the forest". Wooden houses were mentioned in a document as early as 1306. From the 16th to the 18th century, wooden houses played an important role in the Zugerischen Vogtei Gangolfswil , as their administration was located here. In 1709 the idea of the center was expressed through the construction of the first rifle house and community center, where community meetings were held. Until the 19th century, in the then poor canton of Zug, traffic took place on a network of bumpy mule tracks, over which the merchants on mules and horses forwarded the freight.

Heavy wagons were only able to transport goods with the construction of the canton road in 1838/39 from Honau via wooden houses to Cham ZG . The community's first post office was set up in 1849 in the Engel inn. When the road to Hünenberg ZG was completed in 1858 and to the cantonal road to Schwyz in 1861, wooden houses became a crossing point in the cantonal road network. Before the construction of the national highways, a large part of the north-south travel and truck traffic was carried out via this place, which was also reflected in the popular parlance with the common expression "Hamburg - wooden houses - Milan" . In honor of this expression, there is now a pizzeria called «Milano» in wooden houses.
